Each leader has walked a different path in life and provide unique expertise to our service offering. They might have their own specialism, but they all have one thing in common: they’re passionate about people.
Second to be featured in the series is Nicola Broomham, Director of Client Solutions.
- In your opinion, what’s your biggest professional achievement?
I’m lucky to have had a few standout moments in my career, the first was being asked to speak at the Propertymark regional and annual conferences which led onto numerous public speaking opportunities; it’s part of my role that I really enjoy now.
The second isn’t a single achievement or a single event, but every week I look at my diary and see which meetings and conversations I have booked, and they are with the incredible people in the estate agency space, including the most senior CEO’s and MD’s, phenomenal companies, disruptors and start-ups. When I think about how amazing it is that I operate in this world it makes me very proud.
But the single biggest achievement has to be creating, growing and selling my own business which was acquired by deverellsmith at the beginning of 2022.
- Where does your professional expertise lie?
I’ve worked in the estate agency sector for over 20 years both as an estate agent and as a recruiter. I understand our sector and more importantly I’ve been on both sides of the desk (buyer and seller).
I’m very well connected within both estate agency and PropTech and I am often approached as a voice of the industry for market insight, advice for senior hires and executive search, as well as general talent acquisition.
Having run my own business, I understand the commerciality of hiring decisions and the challenge business owners face.
- What can you offer the estate agency industry?
Trust, compassion, honesty, professionalism, and results.
- What causes are you passionate about?
I have a passion for supporting senior women in our space and for promoting gender equality. As a woman growing my career in a very male dominated environment, I have experienced bias and objectification both personally and towards others. I’m a mum with two girls of my own, I want to see more equal opportunities for all and an industry that encourages women to flourish in their potential.
I’m a big supporter of encouraging the next generation of estate agents to join the property career ladder through training, progression, generational understanding and adaptation to an evolving workforce and way of life.
- What effect do you want to have on your industry with your work?
For a long time, property recruitment has been done the same way: poorly. I have an opportunity to be a voice of change.
The role I have with the deverellsmith group allows me to offer our clients more than just transactional recruitment and instead, I can offer more creative ways to really help our employers grow, retain, and provide talent in a plethora of different solutions.
There are no other recruiters in our sector with the knowledge about outsourcing that deverellsmith and our sister brand Hintel have to offer. The impact I can make is to educate, demonstrate and provide something very modern, cost effective and valuable to estate agents to support and ease their talent woes. Recruitment in our space has long had a poor reputation and alongside Andrew (Deverell-Smith), I’m here to change that.
I want to be the recruiter that does things ‘properly’, through building relationships with discretion and providing an in depth understanding of needs. Placing high quality people in high quality businesses through a thoughtful, curated, and methodical search process.
